MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — A townhouse fire killed two women in Mountlake Terrace on Monday night, authorities said.

Around 10:20 p.m. Monday, firefighters were dispatched to the Lake Village Condominiums in the 22700 block of Lakewood Drive. The townhouse where the two women resided was engulfed in flames when South County Fire crews arrived.

At the fire’s peak, nearly 50 firefighters were on scene, including members of the Shoreline Fire Department. One South County firefighter suffered “minor” heat exertion and was treated at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Three townhouses sustained damage during the fire. The Red Cross and Support 7 assisted “at least” six displaced residents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
