Two workers fall from I-5 bridge Tuesday evening

MARYSVILLE — Two workers fell off the I-5 bridge Tuesday near milepost 198, sending one of them 60 feet to the water below, according to the Everett Fire Department.

Around 7 p.m., two men working in the air in a “cherry picker” type bucket under a bridge along northbound I-5 near Marysville.

The bucket tipped over, causing one worker to fall into Steamboat Slough. The man who fell into the water swam to shore and was taken to the hospital as a precaution, authorities said.

The other man managed to climb out of the equipment and make it back to land. He did not sustain any injuries, according to the department.

One lane of northbound I-5 was closed for about four hours.
