The Athlete of the Week nominees for Feb. 23-March 1. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Wednesday’s paper.

Torsten Hokanson | Snohomish boys swimming

The senior won the Class 3A 50-yard freestyle, finished second in the 100 and led the Panthers to two relay wins at the state swim meet. Hokanson won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week for Feb. 2-8 by claiming 1,482 (28.52%) of the 5,196 votes.

This week’s nominees

Cam Hiatt | Edmonds-Woodway boys basketball

The senior went 12-for-12 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and overtime while scoring 37 points in over Bellevue to propel the Warriors to Thursday’s state playoff quarterfinal at the Tacoma Dome.

Jo Lee | Glacier Peak boys basketball

The senior scored 28 points in a state playoff loss to West Valley on March 1.

Ava Marr | Archbishop Murphy girls basketball

The senior scored 23 points in a win over W.F. West to lead the Wildcats to a Thursday quarterfinal of the Class 2A state tournament, held at the Yakima SunDome.

Leyton Martin | Arlington boys basketball

The senior recorded a triple double (15 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists) and hit the game-winning free throw with 1.7 seconds remaining against Kentwood to lead the Eagles to the Tacoma Dome for the Class 4A state playoffs Round of 12.

Noelani Tupua | Lake Stevens girls basketball

The sophomore’s 22 points, 13 rebounds and seven steals led the Vikings to a win over Issaquah and a trip to the Tacoma Dome.
