Enjoy spring weather for Arbor Day celebrations

EVERETT — The week of celebrating and giving back to Earth continues. Friday is Arbor Day — a holiday dedicated to planting trees.

Towns and organizations around the county are joining the spring festivities, with events planned for Friday and Saturday. As a bonus, the National Weather Service is predicting high 60s and sun for the next few days.

Friday

The city of Monroe will celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day on Friday at Lake Tye Park.

Mayor Geoffrey Thomas is hosting a tree planting ceremony where fourth graders from Fryelands Elementary School will plant a Red Sunset Maple. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. just West of the Monroe Board & Blade Park parking lot.

Gold Bar will also be celebrating Arbor Day, and third graders from Gold Bar Elementary will help to plant three trees at Gateway Park. Students will also receive a western red cedar sapling to take home. The park celebration, located on Orchard Ave. between 5th and 6th Street, will start at 12:30 p.m.

Saturday

From noon to 4 p.m., join the town of Snohomish in celebrating a belated Earth Day. Events will start at 1 p.m. at Snohomish Carnegie, 105 Cedar St. For more information, reach out to Kellee Byard at kellee.byard@wsu.edu or 425-357-6027.

In Stanwood, Camp Fire Snohomish County is hosting an Earth Day celebration and open house from noon to 4 p.m. at Camp Killoqua, 15207 E. Lake Goodwin Road. The event will include games, crafts and tours of the campground.
