EVERETT — Monroe’s new city hall at 806 W. Main St., part of a $17 million municipal campus improvement plan, opens to the public on Sept. 22, a press release said.
Construction began in 2023, and city officials expected the campus to be complete in July, Monroe Mayor Geoffrey Thomas told The Herald during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 15.
Two months later the public will be able to enter and view the building’s architecture, which reflects the natural surroundings of the city, in line with the “Imagine Monroe” city vision statement. Large windows allow for natural light and the hallways are decorated with indoor plants, stone and wood.
“It is exciting to see a vision become reality with the improved building efficiency and accessibility,” Thomas said in the release. “We are pleased to have most all of our City staff and officials back home on our municipal campus.”
The city council held its first meeting in the new space on Sept. 9.
“It is really nice to be in here,” City Council member Tami Beaumont said during that meeting. “It somehow feels like we are doing even better work than we normally do in this beautiful setting.”
The new building includes increased parking outside and increased seating inside, the release said. The construction was paid for primarily through the sale of municipal bonds.
A community open house will take place 3-6 p.m. on Oct. 31 as part of the Downtown Monroe Trick-or-Treat event, the release said.
The city hall’s temporary location at 14841 179th Ave. SE closes Sept. 19, the release said. Monroe Municipal Court will continue services at its temporary location, 769 Village Way, until it moves to the new campus in October.
