EVERETT — Firefighters found one man dead and another injured during a house fire Sunday evening in Everett.

Around 7 p.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to reports of a fire on the back side of a home in the 11800 block of 8th Avenue West. Witnesses told first responders that four people lived in the home and two were believed to still be inside, a South County Fire press release said.

While responding, firefighters heard small explosions believed to be from ammunition and observed possible drug paraphernalia, the release said.

Firefighters faced challenges searching the first floor due to the large amount of furniture, the release said. During the search, firefighters recovered the body of a man in his 40s.

Firefighters found a man in his 80s inside a bedroom on the second floor. First responders transported the man to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, the release said.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. The damage is estimated to be $375,000, the release said.

More than 30 firefighters responded to this incident, including personnel from the Everett Fire Department and the Paine Field Fire Department. Support 7 and American Red Cross volunteers assisted residents displaced by the fire, the release said.
