EVERETT — Lake Stevens recently placed 10th in a ranking of Washington’s safest cities, two spots higher than the last survey.

Bothell and Mukilteo followed at 16th and 17th out of the 20 cities in SafeWise’s 2025 rankings, calculated from FBI crime data.

“We put a lot of time and effort into public safety, making sure we have a fully functional police department with a great staff and respond to service calls in a timely manner,” said Lake Stevens City Administrator Gene Brazel.

Violent crime, classified by the FBI as murder, non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assault, dropped by 2% in Lake Stevens between 2023 and 2024, according to annual data from the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs. Property crime, classified by the FBI as burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft and arson, decreased by 17.9%.

Among the 20 safest cities, two murders were reported, occurring in Lake Stevens and Sammamish, respectively, SafeWise said.

Bothell and Mukilteo both saw a drop in property crimes, the annual data said. In Bothell, violent crime rose by 5.6%, while it decreased by 12% in Mukilteo.
