TRI-CITIES — The Hanford nuclear reservation budget for next year would increase by $22 million from the current budget to about $2.1 billion.
The Tri-City Herald reports that’s in addition to nearly $2 billion in federal stimulus money being spent on Hanford cleanup from last year through next year.
Sen. Patty Murray said the Obama budget proposal will keep cleanup work on track.
The biggest single Hanford budget item is $740 million on the vitrification plant that is being build to convert waste into glass logs for long-term storage.
