Adults must ensure kids wear helmets

Our Port Gardner neighborhood enjoyed the Night Out Against Crime on Aug. 5. Many families attended a barbecue with hamburgers and hot dogs. There were visits from several Everett Police officers and several Everett Fire Department members. Many children were riding bicycles and scooters around the picnic tables. Only about one third of the children were wearing helmets. I was disappointed when none of the police officers or firemen praised those kids that were wearing helmets. Furthermore, our officers and firemen didn’t fulfill their duty when they did not remind the other kids that they need to wear a helmet when on a bike or scooter to be safe.
