Arlington

City receives loan

A $10 million, low-interest loan is expected to help fund a remodel and expansion of the city’s wastewater treatment center.

The loan is from the statewide Public Works Trust Fund and features a 0.5 percent interest rate. The City Council voted to accept the loan earlier this week. The 20-year loan is scheduled to be finalized today.

The planned remodel is designed to increase the amount of waste the city can treat, while also making the process more environmentally friendly.

Sewer extension planned

The city plans to extend a sewer line in downtown Arlington to connect MacLeod and Olympic avenues. The extension will allow the city to stop using a clay pipe that is at least 80 years old.

“That will take a huge amount of flow off of that small clay line,” said assistant city administrator Kristin Banfield.

Earlier this week, the City Council voted to spend $41,722 on design work associated with the project.

City OKs building fixes

Repairs to the heating and air conditioning systems in the Arlington City Council Chambers and the police station are expected to cost the city a little more than $10,000.

The systems have had problems for a few months and city staff want them fixed before the summer heat arrives. The City Council authorized the work at a meeting Monday.
