LYNNWOOD — A man carrying a gun stole OxyContin pills from a Lynnwood pharmacy Friday morning.
The man, described as white and in his early 20s, entered a Walgreen’s pharmacy at Highway 99 and 168th Street SW just before 9 a.m. and demanded the pills from the pharmacist, Lynnwood Police Department spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said.
The man was wearing a stocking cap hidden beneath the hood of a sweatshirt. His eyes were hidden behind aviator sunglasses, and cotton gloves covered his hands.
Oxycontin is a prescription painkiller that is highly addictive when abused.
About one in every 20 high school seniors have experimented with OxyContin, according to a study released late last year by the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research. Addiction to the painkiller has been linked to a rash of pharmacy robberies in recent years.
Anyone with information about Friday’s robbery should call Lynnwood Police Detective Jerry Rittgarn at 425-744-6924.
