Seattle 3, Everett 1
TALKING POINTS
Seattle appears to have Everett’s number this season. Five games, five Seattle wins, and Everett has rarely looked good in any of them. Tonight was probably as well as the Tips have played all season against the T-birds — Everett outshot Seattle 34-26. But Seattle goaltender Riku Helenius played a good game in goal, and the T-birds took advantage of moments when Everett was sloppy.
TURNING POINT
Early in the second period a bad pass by Zach Hamill on the power play sent the T-birds flying two-on-one short-handed the other way. Jan Eberle set up Prab Rai for a nice goal to give Seattle the all-important two-goal lead.
HIT OF THE DAY
In the second period Everett defenseman Dane Crowley ran over Eberle to keep a puck in at the point.
THREE STARS
First star: Helenius, Seattle. Good game in goal for the T-birds netminder.
Second star: Zack Dailey, Everett. Celebrated his return to the lineup with a goal.
Third star: Rai, Seattle. Excellent speed and stickwork on his goal.
The Herald’s honorable mention: Jim O’Brien, Seattle. Caused Everett trouble with his combination of size and speed.
LINEUP NOTES
Everett had Dailey back in the lineup after missing six games with a groin injury. Defenseman Graham Potuer took the warmup but was ultimately scratched because of his bruised sternum. Forwards Tyler Skauge and Tyler Eskesen and defenseman Jeff Regier were healthy scratches.
Seattle, like Everett, struck out at the trade deadline and therefore has just 21 players on its roster. Helenius (Finland) and defenseman Thomas Hickey (Canada) were making their first appearance since returning from the World Junior Hockey Championships. However, although leading scorer Bud Holloway has recovered from his concussion, he had to sit out because the protocol calls for a full week off. Fellow forward Brenden Silvester also sat out because of illness, meaning the T-birds dressed just 17 skaters — 10 forwards and seven defensemen.
