Marysville: Barrels to collect donations

Red barrels are scheduled to be placed around town Saturday to kick off Operation Marysville Community Christmas.

In the program, run by a group of volunteers from the Marysville Community Food Bank, food baskets and toys left in the barrels are distributed to families in need for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The program is in its 22nd year.

Volunteers plan to place barrels at more than 50 locations around town to collect items such as nonperishable food, unused toys, stocking stuffers, cash cards, candy or wrapping materials.

These items also may dropped off between 8 and 11 a.m. every day except Wednesday and Sunday at the Marysville Community Food Bank, 6518 60th Drive NE.

For more information or to volunteer, call the food bank at 360-658-1054.

Stanwood: City launches Web site

The city of Stanwood launched its first Web site this week. The Web site is still under construction, and currently includes basic information on the town’s mayor and City Council members.

Phone numbers for key city workers are also available on the site. There’s also an area for emergency alerts and press releases.

Eventually the Web site is expected to list agendas and minutes for city meetings.
