FYI
Published 11:09 pm Friday, July 6, 2007
This morning will be the last opportunity to see the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln for a month or more.
It’s been back at Naval Station Everett for only a week after a long maintenance period. The public had a chance to tour the ship at the base’s Fourth of July celebration.
Now the Lincoln is scheduled to go to Southern California waters for training.
The Lincoln is set to leave early today, ship spokeswoman Lt. Cmdr. Kathleen Sandoz said.
The ship will begin a training cycle with air crews in preparation for the next deployment, which likely will be in early 2008. The Lincoln won’t return to Everett for at least a month.
Sign up for WASL retakes by Sunday
The deadline for high school students to sign up to retake the WASL is 5 p.m. Sunday.
Students learned in June if they passed all or part of the 10th-grade Washington Assessment of Student Learning taken in March and April.
To register online, go to www.k12.wa.us/WASLregistration.
Reading retakes will be on Aug. 6, math on Aug. 7, and writing on Aug. 8 and 9.
The August retakes will not be given to freshmen who took the WASL a year early.
The class of 2008, next year’s seniors, must pass the reading and writing WASL or an alternative to the WASL in order to graduate.
