Barriers put there to keep people safe

Regarding the proposal to remove the barriers at the Centennial Trail (Aug. 20 “Barriers bother bicyclists”): I strongly oppose the county taking these barriers out. These are, and have been, great barriers to keep my children safe when we use the trail. They are far enough back from the intersections that I can tell my boys to race ahead of me and then they stop and wait at the barriers.
I’m shocked that the people who want this changed don’t even live in Snohomish County. I’ve been using the trail for about eight years and have never seen or heard of an accident around those barriers.
