Arlington shuts out Monroe to stay on L. Stevens’ heels

MONROE – Arlington beat Monroe 28-0 Friday night in a Western Conference 3A game at Monroe Stadium.

The Eagles (4-1 in league, 6-1 overall) were led by running back John Hammer, who rushed six times for 67 yards and had two touchdowns. Teammate Nick Yoney had only two receptions, but made the most of them, converting one for 52 yards and the other for 35, setting the table for Hammer’s touchdown runs.

Monroe coach Randy Olson said, “We gave them a short field by turning the ball over four times, and they capitalized on it.”

The Eagles compiled 294 total yards to the Bearcats 206, but Monroe’s turnovers were the major difference in the outcome of the game.

  • Everett 58, Lynnwood 8: Ben Challman had 12 carries for 172 yards and three touchdowns to help Everett cruise to a Wesco 3A victory. Travis Schultz added 112 yards on just four carries and scored two touchdowns. The Everett defense intercepted seven passes, including three by defensive back Brian Price, who also carried five times for 87.

Smith had 103 yards on just six carries and scored two touchdowns. Stanwood’s Julian Bomar had 22 carries for 129 yards and one touchdown.

Quarterback Ryan Jones led the offensive charge for the Knights, completing 12 of 16 passes for 216 yards and three touchdowns.
