EVERETT — The Board of Health appointed Jefferson Ketchel as the Snohomish Health District’s interim administrator effective April 1.

The board reached the decision at its meeting Monday.

The appointment was made after the resignation of the district’s deputy director, Pete Mayer, who is leaving the job April 7 to become the new assistant executive director for Metro Parks Tacoma.

Ketchel joined the Health District as the environmental health director in July 2015. He previously worked for five years as the administrator for Grant County Health District and for 15 years in environmental health in Seattle and King County.

The board also recognized health officer Dr. Gary Goldbaum for his decade of service to the health district. Goldbaum, who is retiring, plans to continue working in a limited role through May. The health board is recruiting his replacement and after that intends to recruit a permanent administrator.
