Yakima River update

Jim Gallagher at Troutwater Fly Shops & Guide Services, Cle Elum and Ellensburg, said the Yakima River is fishing pretty well, despite non-optimal water clarity. Flows are great for floating, but a little high for wading, Gallagher said, and color gets worse below the Teanaway.

Best success has been subsurface, he said, using a dropper system with a size eight or ten brown and beige color skwala nymph and either a small mayfly nymph or a San Juan worm dropper.

Gallagher said he expects good dry fly fishing over the next few weeks as temperatures warm.
