VANCOUVER, Wash. — The principal at a Vancouver school said it’s fortunate there were no students in the building when water sprinkler pipes froze and burst.
The Columbian reported the leaking water caused the ceiling to collapse Saturday in one classroom at Hockinson Heights Intermediate School. Water also damaged two adjacent classrooms and three other rooms.
About 50 fourth-grade students have been relocated during repairs.
Principal Lisa Swindell said the sprinkler pipers were not insulated when the temperature dropped to 16 degrees.
