The 2023 Kia EV6 GT is a curve-carving powerhouse making 576 horsepower and 545 pound-feet of torque without using a drop of gasoline. It joined the Kia lineup for 2023 after the brand’s first fully-electric vehicle, the EV6, was introduced last year.
Trim levels for the 2022 EV6 were named Light, Wind, and GT-Line, each with standard rear-wheel drive and the latter two available with all-wheel drive. The Light model was dropped for 2023 and the GT arrived as the top-tier model, complete with standard AWD.
Wind and GT-Line models max out at 320 horsepower when equipped with AWD, which means the GT tops them by 256 hp. GT’s pricing is formidably higher too; more than $9,000 compared to the Wind AWD.
On a full charge, the Wind AWD has a 282-mile range and the GT goes for 206 miles. Rear-wheel-drive Wind and GT-Line models are the leaders with a 310-mile range.
The GT has multiple upgraded components including adaptive suspension, bigger brakes with neon green calipers, 21-inch wheels, and five drive modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport, GT, and My Drive.
Comfort, convenience and infotainment features are in good supply within the EV6. Interior elements unique to the GT are height-adjustable front seats that slide and recline, heated second-row outboard seats, and a heated steering wheel with a neon green button for GT mode. That short list for the top trim indicates how well equipped the Wind and GT-Line are.
GT’s sport bucket seats are as comfortable and supportive as they are attention-grabbing. Interior design includes dual 12.3-inch displays with navigation, a decently intuitive multimedia system with Meridian Premium Audio, and lots of stowage bins and cubbies including a big open area beneath the bridge-like center console.
Following suit in generosity, the cargo area provides 24.4 cubic feet with rear seats in upright position, with a wide opening for access.
The GT rides smoothly even over rough patches of road, and the cabin stays quiet perpetually.
No one who knows anything about horsepower needs to be told how amazingly the EV6 GT hauls booty, or how grossly I underused it during a week of driving on supervised public roads.
