2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab LT 4WD

If your work or leisure life, or both, require a luxurious beast, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab LT 4WD is your answer.

But you’ll need an equally large driveway.

The back of the Silverado 2500 HD spilled onto the sidewalk, and it used more than half of the two-car driveway’s width. But then I’m a suburbanite, squeezed into a small lot in a big development.

Powered by the legendary Duramax 6.6-liter, turbo-diesel V8, and paired with an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission, the combo delivers 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque with a max tow capability of 22,500 pounds.

The Silverado 2500 HD seats up to five adults with more room than a sedan or SUV, comes with a range of close to 500 miles, and manages to deliver around 18 miles per gallon fuel economy down the highway. And let’s not forget the Drubbed long bed cargo box.

Designed to optimize maximum cargo, the bed features a best-in-class 53.5 cubic foot capacity, as well as corner step rear bumper, side bedsteps, and multi-flex tailgate access along with a 120-volt power outlet.

Talk about having it all.

“We’ve designed the Silverado HD to be our customers’ favored choice for true truck capability,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “The enhancements to the 2024 model build on its core strengths to provide an even stronger balance of the design, strength and confidence that makes tackling the hard jobs, including trailering, easier and more convenient than ever.”

The 2024 Silverado HD has a commanding presence, driven by a freshened front-end appearance that features a new fascia, new headlights, new grille and more. The truck’s chiseled appearance combines with timeless design that not only looks, but is, prepared for anything.

The tester came with a “Red Hot” coat of enamel and 20-inch, machined aluminum spoke wheels that screamed ‘look at me!’

The LT trim introduces a dramatically redesigned passenger space centered around an all-new instrument panel that houses the segment’s largest infotainment screen: a 13.4-inch-diagonal infotainment display.

“It’s a more open-feeling and contemporary interior that passengers will find inviting,” said Phil Zak, executive director of Global Chevrolet Design. “It’s an environment that intentionally puts more at the driver’s fingertips, for a greater feeling of confidence and connection with the vehicle.”

Canted toward the driver, the infotainment display makes operating navigation and the premium sound system a breeze. Adjacent is a wireless charging devise area and massive center console to store personal items out of sight. The rear bench seat also hides interior storage underneath.

Creature comforts include heated leather front bucket seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, power sliding rear window, adaptive cruise control, front and rear USB ports, and more.

Safety and security technology goes on and on and on. Highlights include automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, lane departure warning, following distance indicator, teen drive mode, rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, trailer side blind-zone alert, bed view camera, remote start, and a theft deterrent system for starters.

Curly Tops Cypress (Chamaecyparis pisfiera), a modern version of the old Boulevard Cypress, is one I chose years ago and still enjoy. Great blue color and interesting twisted needles add texture to boot. This is a smaller grower, maturing to perhaps 10-feet tall and 8-feet wide, but it will take some shearing if needed.
