Great Plant Pick: Camouflage fatsia
Published 1:30 am Friday, November 11, 2022
What: Camouflage fatsia is a Japanese selection with stunning variegated foliage. The typical bold leaves of fatsia, with their large palmate form up to 16 inches across, are light yellow at the base, then splashed with various shades of green to the leaf edge. Drumstick-like flowers are otherworldly in appearance but add to the distinctiveness of this evergreen shrub for the woodland or shady garden. Foliage is excellent in flower arrangements, and lasts for weeks when cut.
Where: Plant in a variety of soils as long as they are well-drained, although a loamy soil is best. Regular summer watering encourages full lush growth and large, bold leaves, but it will tolerate only occasional watering during dry weather.
Size: Grows to 10 feet high by 10 feet wide in 10 years.
Care: Camouflage fatsia requires little pruning other than to remove any dead, broken or poorly formed limbs.
