Great Plant Pick: Geum ‘Double Bloody Mary’
Published 1:30 am Saturday, June 9, 2018
What: Long blooming, frilly double red flowers grace the Geum “Double Bloody Mary” all summer long. The flowers are held in open sprays on strong stems, creating a bright and airy feel. The foliage forms a tight evergreen mound.
Where: These floriferous perennials grow best in full sun to light or open shade. Geums do not like hot locations, so avoid sites with blazing afternoon sun. They will tolerate most garden soils, but do require good drainage.
Size: This geum will grow to be 1½ feet tall and 1½ feet wide when mature.
Care: They need regular watering during dry periods. After the first large flush of flowering is done in early summer, the plant can be cut to the ground and allowed to regrow for continued summer bloom.
