What: Like a watercolor painting the glossy, evergreen foliage of Hedera algeriensis “Glorie de Marengo,” with the common name Algerian ivy, is splashed with shades of gray-green and cream on this vigorous vine. Grow as a groundcover, on sturdy walls or in containers for a visually stunning effect. While the Algerian ivy is not a thug like it English ivy cousin, which is invasive and spreads into surrounding forests, be aware that it is an exuberant grower; however, it is easily kept in check by pruning.
Where: Plant in full sun to light, open, dappled or deep shade, although in the latter the colorful variegation will tend to be less vibrant. The soil can be average, but should be well-drained.
Size: The vine can grow to be 40 feet tall and 20 feet wide.
Water: During the dry season water regularly to frequently if planted in a full-sun situation; in shade water at least occasionally.
