Question: I have a metal door that is badly worn and I want to give it a fresh coat of paint. Can you give me any advice?
Answer: Actually, a paint job on metal can look pretty darn good if you know a few tricks.
First and foremost don’t treat it like wood. Sanding metal requires the use of very fine grained sandpaper: 400- to 600-grit wet and dry sandpaper works best.
Dip the sandpaper in water and sand while wet. Fill the scratches with any metal filler. Prime with metal primer and use metal oxide based paint for the finish coat.
When painting any metal we use techniques and materials intended for use on automobiles.
