Kenya Safari Acrobats swing into Edmonds

The term “acrobats” hardly seems to cover it.
The Kenya Safari Acrobats perform a nonstop spectacle of gravity-defying human pyramids, balancing, limbo dancing — with fire — hurling through hoops and eye-popping contortions.
These artisans perform with a happiness and humor that has them clapping to a joyful Benga beat, smiling and basically having a ball on stage.

Blending American favorites such as Disney’s “The Lion King” in their act, the acrobats keep the audience on the edge of their seats throughout this fast-paced performance.
The Kalama family established the troupe more than a decade ago when Jacob, the family patriarch, immigrated to the United States from Kenya.
Jacob has spent the last 20 years touring the world with various circuses and now spends nine months out of the year touring with the Kenya Safari Acrobats and maintaining peak physical strength, according to press material about the show.
The brilliant costumes are authentic Kenyan, made by the Kalamas in Kenya during the off-season.
The Kenya Safari Acrobats perform at 7:30 tonight at Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N, Edmonds.
