Roger L. Jones has broken out of the realistic mold when it comes to landscapes and is painting compositions based on arcs, circles and grids.

Jones, who was born in Ellensburg, received his master’s in fine art in painting at the University of Washington and has taught art classes in the Edmonds School District. His work is part of many corporate collections, including Microsoft, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the Washington State Arts Commission Art-in-Public-Places Collection, according to his biography.

The Roger L. Jones exhibit is up through July 31 at the City of Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Ave. W., Mountlake Terrace.

Landscape tour: Several landscape paintings by artist Irina Milton are on display in “Brushes With the Land,” a Northwest landscape show at Gallery by the Bay, 8700 271st St. NW, Stanwood.

“Sea &Sand” is the new exhibit at Artworks Gallery that features the watercolors of Gaylen Whiteman.

The Missouri native was inspired to be an artist by her father’s photography and has since done primarily paintings in watercolor, with occasional dips into oils, charcoal and acrylics.

“Sea &Sand” will open with a public reception from 5 to 8 tonight at Artworks Gallery, 765 Wonn Road, Whidbey Island. Live music will be provided by Carlos Xavier on flute.

Also on Whidbey Island: Oil and watercolor paintings of Jonni Reed are on view through Aug. 4 at the Rob Schouten Gallery, 765 Wonn Road.

Reed focuses her work on country- and family-centered vignettes and in classic Western landscape painting, using lively brushwork and refined color choices, according to her biography.
