WHAT: Rugosa rose hips are some of the most extraordinary hips in rose culture.
They resemble clusters of tomatoes, and make interesting additions to wreaths and flower arrangements.
Their color and luster last for months.
Rugosa roses, which have dark, leathery green leaves, are some of the hardiest and most carefree roses sold.
They are adaptable to poor growing conditions, even sand, as long as they have good drainage.
Their stems are densely thorned and they can grow to 7 feet high, so they can easily be used as security plants around windows.
SUN OR SHADE: Plant them in full sun.
SIZE: Rugosa roses can grow up to 8 feet tall in the maritime Northwest.
