Save a buck: Make your own coffee

Published 5:25 pm Tuesday, July 8, 2008

Keeping up with the coffee jones: For many of us, coffee is as indispensable as gasoline, and ounce-for-ounce, even more expensive at espresso stands.

Tip: Make your own coffee and bring it along in a Thermos.

What you’ll save: Even buying coffee beans at $10 a pound, a 16-ounce cup of joe will set you back only about 50 cents, compared to at least $2 at most espresso stands. If you miss the espresso stand experience, make the coffee while wearing a bikini.

Total savings for a week: Based on a 16-ounce cup a day for five days, that’s $7.50 a week, not including tips.
