50 years ago (1961)

Venda Holt, pharmacist for Everett General Hospital, was honored this week by being named one of a panel of four at the joint meeting of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy at the University of Washington.

Vehicles were again using Steamboat Slough bridge on Highway 99 between Everett and Marysville. It was closed for a time when a moving crane struck a girder, breaking it. The span was open for one-lane traffic only during working hours while painting was completed.

25 years ago (1985)

Folks in Index might have to take the law into their own hands. Townspeople decided a full-time peacekeeper was too expensive and were looking to the county sheriff for assistance. Undersheriff Douglas Engelbretson said the department’s response time to the east end of the county was 12 to 19 minutes.

Various police and fire agencies would have emergency vehicles on display at the Mill Creek Gardens shopping center just north of 164th St. It was an effort to increase public awareness about the enhanced 911 ballot proposal.
