Seems Like Yesterday

50 YEARS AGO (1959)

Everett City Commissioners George Culmback and George Gebert joined Tom Borgford, Everett Herald staff writer, to view the newly completed 160-acre sewage disposal lagoon on Smith Island.

Among those named to meet the Harlem Clowns basketball team Friday night in a benefit game for building athletics at Marysville High School were former basketball stars Bob Hansen, Richard Hamlin, Buddy Parsons, Lee Brashler, Art Hatch and Lowell Thometz. Some coaches from the Marysville area would be added to this roster.

25 YEARS AGO (1984)

Darrell Turner of Darrington, a retired WSU extension specialist and now a Christmas tree and livestock producer, was named first vice president of the Washington State Farm Bureau.

Earning recent promotions in the noncommission ranks of the armed services were John A. Kussy of Granite Falls, to Army sergeant at Fort Bragg, N.C., where he was an airborne infantry fire team leader; Christopher S. McMurray of Arlington, also a new infantry sergeant in the same 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg; and Andrew E. Hagglund of Everett, to staff sergeant in the Air Force at Edwards AFB, Calif.
