Air Force Airman Jenae M. Brazell, daughter of Lori and John Anderson of Everett and Patrick Brazell of Shoreline, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman is a 2007 graduate of Mariner High School.

Air Force Airman Timothy W. Vanden Haak has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Henry Vanden Haak of Oak Harbor. The airman is a 2003 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Zachary D. Twydell, son of Sharon Twydell of Arlington and Jake Twydell of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Twydell is a 2008 graduate of Arlington High School.

Marine Corps Maj. Karl E. Johnstone, son of Pamela and Brian Johnstone of Edmonds, recently completed the pre-deployment exercise Mojave Viper at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif., while assigned to 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve, Garden City, N. Y. Johnstone’s unit includes approximately 1,100 reserve and active-duty Marines and sailors who are scheduled to serve in Iraq. The primary mission of Johnstone’s unit will be base security and other nation-building and civil affairs operations. This will be the battalion’s third deployment since 2002. Johnstone is a 1990 graduate of Woodway High School in Edmonds. He joined the Marine Corps in April 1992. He is a 1994 graduate of the University of Washington.

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Timothy L. Jankowski, son of Cathleen and Bengeman Jankowski of Lake Stevens, is serving in Iraq. He and fellow Marines and sailors of 3rd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N. C., recently reached the halfway point in their deployment to Al Anbar province in Iraq. Jankowski is a 2007 graduate of Monroe High School. He joined the Marine Corps in April 2007.

Navy Seaman Recruit Geoffrey K. Guting, son of Wendy Rogers of Oak Harbor and Gregory Guting of Pearl City, Hawaii, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Guting is a 2004 graduate of Sehome High School in Bellingham.

Navy Seaman Recruit Jonathan M. Stup, son of Teresita DeGuzman of San Diego, Calif., and Mark Stup of Coupeville, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Stup is a 2004 graduate of Coupeville High School.

Lt. Col. Jeffrey G. Demuth has been promoted to his current rank in the Air Force. Demuth, a space employment strategist with 16 years of military service, is assigned to the U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Neb. He is the son of Raymond and Bridget Demuth of Oak Harbor and brother of Michelle Van Tassell of Edmonds. The lieutenant colonel graduated in 1988 from Oak Harbor High School and received a bachelor’s degree in 1992 from Seattle University. He earned a master’s degree in 1999 from the University of Phoenix, Colorado Springs.

Army Pvt. Sarah B. James has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. James is the daughter of Beth Bogart of Marysville and sister of Brandie Bogart of Everett. The private graduated from the high school program at Skagit Valley College in 2007.

Navy Seaman Zachary J. Sommers, son of Donna Sommers of Del City, Okla. and Joseph Fifield of Everett, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Christopher J. Ryan, son of Janet S. and David H. Ryan of Oak Harbor, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Ryan is a 2006 graduate of Anacortes High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Jake A. Hixon, a 2008 graduate of Cedar Park Christian School in Bothell, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Seaman Recruit Colby R. Kraght, a 2007 graduate of Oak Harbor High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
