MILL CREEK — A contractor was cleaning ducts in an attic Monday morning when his vacuum lost power. He noticed an electrical smell and went outside to see what happened.

He found his box truck engulfed in flames, according to a statement from Snohomish County Fire District 7.

He tried using a garden hose, but quickly realized that wasn’t going to be enough. He called 911 around 11:30 a.m.

By the time firefighters arrived, the flames had spread to the house on the 16000 block of 35th Park SE, just east of Mill Creek. They used water and foam to extinguish the fire and prevent it from extending to the interior.

The exterior of the house had been burned, and the inside had some smoke damage, but the home was otherwise saved, according to Fire District 7. The truck was a total loss.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

No one else was inside the house and no injuries were reported.
