MARYSVILLE — An alert neighbor kept apparent burglars from escaping Wednesday.
The neighbor knew the homeowner was at work when three people were seen entering a house near 51st Avenue and 80th Street at about 7:15 a.m.
Police surrounded the house and announced their presence.
One person tried to flee through a back window, but turned around when an officer was there.
A negotiator couldn’t make any headway with them, and flash bangs didn’t work either, Marysville police Cmdr. Mark Thomas said.
“We wanted to show we were serious and were not going away,” he added.
Police then opened the front door and sent a police dog, Copper, inside to search the house, along with a small team of officers. They found one suspect hiding under a bunch of items in the garage.
Police suspected the other two were in the attic, as there was a chair and insulation near its entrance. They used a pole camera to check, but the suspects still would not give up. They were going to send Copper up there, but “that would have almost guaranteed a bite,” Thomas said.
So officers went up instead and found a man and woman hiding under insulation. Thomas said the suspects had some items from the house with them.
The property crimes unit is investigating. Thomas said the trio likely will face felony burglary charges.
