GIVING
Fourth-graders donate shoes
Fourth-graders in Danielle White’s class at Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Perpetual Help school gave more than 120 pairs of children’s shoes to the SHOES-n-FEET store for donation to the Everett Gospel Mission.
“They did
a good job,” White said. “They went around to each classroom and talked about the shoe drive. They made posters and we had a box outside the room to collect the shoes.”
According to White, the students learned a lot about public speaking, advertising and community service along with the value of doing for others.
Doug Carmean, owner of SHOES-n-FEET, presented the class with a certificate of appreciation.
SHOES-n-FEET has made two large deliveries of shoes to the Everett Gospel Mission. The store thanked those who dropped off shoes at the store.
Grant to give beds to children
Greater Everett Community Foundation awarded the North Sound Council of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul with a grant of $2,852 for its Beds for Children program.
These funds will provide 24 beds for children who currently sleep on the floor in their homes.
The volunteers of the nonprofit visit these families in their homes, often bringing food with them. They determine the needs of the family at that visit.
High schoolers help deliver calf
Juniors and seniors at Archbishop Murphy High School participated in a school retreat at Camp Brotherhood in Mount Vernon.
During the course of the weekend of prayer, self-discovery and activities, several seniors were called upon to assist in the birth of a calf.
A cow was having difficulties with the birth. Onlookers were alerted to trouble with the delivery, and nearby students were asked for help. Gabe Benedetto, Austin VanderWel, Keola Wilkins, Nate Zarate and Randy Gordon helped deliver the calf.
The calf was named Keola.
