Camano Island woman dies in head-on crash

CAMANO ISLAND — A 76-year-old woman was killed in a head-on crash late Friday on E Camano Drive.

Her southbound Mercedes-Benz SLK350 crossed the double-yellow line into northbound traffic near Michelle Drive for an “unknown reason” around 10:05 p.m., according to a report from the Washington State Patrol. The Mercedes crashed head-on into a 2021 Ford Bronco.

Both vehicles were totaled.

The Mercedes driver, identified as Mavis Jansen, of Camano Island, was pronounced dead on the scene.

A man driving the Ford, 22, of Mount Vernon, and a woman in the passenger seat, 27, of Camano Island, were taken to Skagit Valley Hospital as a precaution. According to the Washington State Patrol, they did not appear to have suffered serious injuries.
