EVERETT — A teenage boy sustained life-threatening injuries after police say his former girlfriend conspired to stab him in the back Sunday in Lynnwood.

Around 3:13 p.m. Sunday, Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies responded alongside the Lynnwood Police Department to reports of a stabbing in the 20900 block of 44th Avenue West, according to a sheriff’s office social media post. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 17-year-old boy with a stab wound to his back, court documents said.

While investigating, deputies learned the teen had been lured from his apartment and distracted before a known acquaintance allegedly stabbed him, the post said. Afterwards, the suspect fled into a wooded area and discarded the knife used in the assault.

Around 7:04 p.m., deputies located two suspects at a nearby strip mall, where they took the primary suspect, an 18-year-old male, and a second suspect, a 19-year-old female, into custody, court documents said.

During the investigation, deputies discovered that the female suspect had been in a relationship with the victim, but now she is with the male suspect, court documents said. The victim and the male suspect are former friends.

Court documents said the pair’s story changed multiple times before telling investigators a final story. While being interviewed, the male suspect said the pair had preplanned the stabbing and that the female suspect had texted the victim she wanted to meet him alone to “smoke” to get him out of his apartment before he stabbed him, court documents said.

The female suspect told investigators that they were not all friends with the victim and that she was at the location of the stabbing to get items, court documents said. She said she provided aid to the victim but left before first responders arrived. A white sweatshirt with red stains was on the female suspect’s person when deputies contacted her, court documents said.

First responders transported the victim to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett with life-threatening injuries.

Officers booked the male suspect into Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault, and the female suspect on suspicion of first-degree assault domestic violence.
