It seems like the perfect solution for those of us who compost: a bag you can toss your veggie scraps in that quickly decomposes in the compost bin.
Reader and super recycler Karen Erickson of Snohomish says it doesn’t work as well as promised.
She read an AP story in The Herald recently about the BioBags. Here’s what the story says about this product: “These ultrathin 3-gallon bags are made from corn and will decompose in as little as 10 days. Keep one under the sink, fill it up as you cook over a few days, then toss the whole thing on the compost pile.”
Here’s what Karen found: “We have tried this product at home in our composting bin. Our compost is not hot enough to have the bags compost quickly. Water and moisture, does make the bags break down some, but the bag stays around for quite some time.”
Thanks, Karen, for giving us the low-down!
