EVERETT — Edmonds Mayor Mike Rosen has named Todd Tatum as acting city administrator.

Tatum previously served as the city’s director of community, culture and economic development. The City Council approved the creation of a the new position last month and eliminated Tatum’s former position. The change will cost the city $76,000 over three years.

Tatum will handle some of the city’s day-to-day operations, shifting some of the workload from Rosen. The adjustment will allow Rosen to focus on the city’s strategic vision, intergovernmental relations and leadership without being overwhelmed by the operational workload, Rosen said in a presentation to the council.

“Todd brings a wealth of experience, integrity, and a deep sense of public service to this new role,” Rosen said in a press release Thursday. “I’m confident in his ability to lead during this important transition into a new position for the city.”

Before working for Edmonds, Tatum held management positions with Washington State Parks. He was involved in developing the Discover Pass and other statewide programs. He also served in the U.S. Army, working with local governments and leading teams in operations, logistics, workforce development and strategic development.

“Seeing what happens to communities when government ceases to exist solidified for me that the public sector was where I needed to be when I ended my time in service,” Tatum said in the release.
