PORTLAND, Ore. — A former member of a Junction City youth camping group run by the Seventh-day Adventist Church has sued the church and its worldwide headquarters, claiming he suffered sexual abuse before and after informing church authorities.
The man, who was not identified in a complaint filed Wednesday in Multnomah County Circuit Court, is seeking $5.25 million from the church.
According to the lawsuit, the man was part of the church’s Pathfinder Club program in 1975 when counselor Les Bovee sexually assaulted him. The man says he informed church authorities, but stayed in the program.
On a camping trip after informing church authorities, the man says in the lawsuit that he was assaulted again by Bovee.
The church did not return calls from The Associated Press on Wednesday.
