Front Porch: New public radio station to start later this year

New FM station

A new independent, commercial-free, public radio station is in the works.

KXIR-FM, 89.9, will reach people from Stanwood and Marysville south to Mountlake Terrace, Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mukilteo and west to Langley, Oak Harbor and Port Townsend. KXIR is scheduled to start later this year. Until then people can listen to sister station 90.7 KSER-FM in Everett. Free massages: All active-duty personnel and their spouses can get a free, one-hour massages through Friday at Massage Envy locations around the Puget Sound.

The business is offering the massages in honor of National Military Appreciation Month. Sessions are provided by appointment only and participants are encouraged to book as soon as possible.

Biotech course open house: An open house is planned for a new Science, Technology, Engineering, Math biotechnology course offered at Everett, Jackson and Cascade high schools next school year. It will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Career Center, located at Cascade High School, 801 E. Casino Road, Everett. The curriculum being adopted for the biotechnology course will be on display. The curriculum will be brought up at the May 28 school board meeting.
