Get your heart checked today
Heart disease and strokes are two of the leading killers of women, but only half of women surveyed are aware of that and even fewer think they are at risk.
Provided by the American Heart Association, the Go Red Heart CheckUp will offer a series of tests — blood pressure, body mass index, blood glucose and family history evaluation — from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Everett Mall.
Screenings will be provided in conjunction with Everett Community College School of Nursing.
Women attending the event will also have a chance to get beauty makeovers, win a $200 gift card from Macy’s and other prizes, and receive seated massages. No advance registration is necessary.

Take precautions against toxic gas
Lingering cold weather has state officials again warning people about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Never use charcoal grills or run generators indoors or in attached garages, officials said. The gas is odorless and can build up quickly. People can become sick before they know what’s happening.
The best way to protect yourself against the gas is to install a carbon monoxide detector, state Secretary of Health Mary Selecky said.
The detectors cost about $30 and are available at many retail stores.
