Our “Life Story” weekly feature Sunday was about the death of Maude DeYoung of Everett, who was 105 years old.
She loved to party, and she loved her birthday. Her granddaughter, Loris Spencer, said she was outrageous.
Friend Norma Pilkenton adds one more story to the DeYoung saga.
“On her 95th birthday, we hired a stripper for her,” Pilkenton said. “When he came to the American Legion, so she wouldn’t know what he was, I introduced him as my brother.”
The stripper was worried he might cause the 95-year-old to have a stroke, but he was told he was the only who needed to worry about his health.
DeYoung enjoyed the surprise immensely, Pilkenton said.

Low-income children who find a second home at the Boys &Girls Club of north Everett often eat at the club.
For many, it’s their main meal.
But the program operates on a thin budget, so kids’ dinners may not always include a bit of meat.
Wonderful folks at Washington Oakes Retirement Community in Everett will make one night special for the kids. On Thursday, they will feed more than 150 youngsters cheeseburgers, french fries and ice cream.
Chef Bo Buckner will lead a team of cooks and a cleanup crew. They’re all set to pump out food until the kids are full.
It’s the second time this group has been so kind to the kids.

It’s not often a typical meeting notice has me scrambling for a dictionary.
“The City of Monroe invites us to participate in the third Community Design Charrette for the Downtown Master Plan and Design Guidelines at 7 p.m. Thursday at Monroe School District, Administrative Building, 200 E. Fremont St., Monroe.”
A charrette?
Ben Swanson, assistant planner for the city of Monroe, said charrette is a term used in urban planning, a technique for consulting with all stakeholders.
The city offers charrettes for downtown planning. They promise to provide enough chair-ettes.

Fun Fact: Donna Murphy, grants and economic development coordinator for the city of Sultan, drove a race car at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, white-water rafted for 15 days on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, and went sky diving, all within the past four years.
“I think they wrote ‘The Bucket List’ movie for me because I’ve always said when I die I want to die with a lot of experiences and a little bit of stuff,” Murphy said. “I’m going to San Francisco in May and will take a class at trapeze school.”
She is 55 years old.
