EVERETT — People near two local Navy bases might notice smoke, loud noises, emergency vehicles and ships moving around the water over the next two weeks.
Naval Station Everett and Naval Air Station Whidbey Island are participating in anti-terrorism training called the “Exercise Citadel Shield-Solid Curtain 2021.” Other Navy installations are also involved.
At Naval Station Everett, the main gates are scheduled to be closed 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and intermittently Feb. 8-11. The drill ends Feb. 12.
“Those who access the base should plan ahead and expect delays during the exercise,” a news release said.
These kinds of drills take place to prepare in case of an emergency and are not related to any specific threat, the Navy said.
