EVERETT — A man died after he was shot Saturday night near California Street and Rockefeller Avenue.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, was found there by Everett Police officers in the area who heard gunshots before 8:30 p.m.

A police dog and officers didn’t find a suspect.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he died, according to the Everett Police Department.

As officers looked for a suspect and investigated the shooting, the area near the Angel of the Winds Arena was secured, which held up people leaving the Everett Silvertips game. The shooting was not believed to be connected to the game, police said.

Detectives are investigating the fatal shooting.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, as well as identify the victim.
