MARYSVILLE — A man reportedly has confessed to mistakenly starting a July 2 fire that caused $500,000 damage to a thrift store.
The Marysville man, 36, reportedly told police some clothing caught fire as he used a lighter to peer inside a semi-truck trailer that was attached to Value Village in the 1300 block of State Avenue. The trailer was full of merchandise. Flames spread to the building.
The man surrendered to Marysville police Wednesday night and was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree reckless burning, a felony.
He became a suspect in the fire during a North Snohomish County Property Crimes Unit investigation of unrelated burglaries. He reportedly made some admissions July 6 about involvement in the fire. He wasn’t arrested because of the ongoing investigations.
When asked to return for another interview, the man reportedly described how the fire was started.
He remains under investigation for burglary and possession of stolen property.
