SEATTLE — Authorities have identified a 53-year-old Maple Valley man who died after his vehicle was struck by a car that had been chased by deputies.
The Seattle Times reported Michael Brooks was killed in the head-on collision Tuesday morning involving the driver of a Kia who suffered minor injuries.
A deputy earlier in the morning had begun chasing the Kia because it was driving fast and erratically on Highway 18. The deputy broke off the pursuit when the 27-year-old suspect failed to stop and exited the highway.
Minutes later, sheriff’s officers came upon the crash scene. King County sheriff’s spokesman Jim Burke said it appeared the suspect’s car had veered into oncoming traffic, striking another vehicle head-on.
The suspect has been booked into jail on investigation of vehicular homicide.
