MARYSVILLE — A Marysville man who shot his roommate earlier this week acted in self-defense, police say.
A woman called police Tuesday to report an assault at a home in the neighborhood south of 116th Street NE and State Avenue. The caller reported a man had pulled out a sword and her boyfriend shot him.
Authorities arrived to find a man lying in the front yard with a gunshot wound to his pelvis.
As paramedics treated the wounded man, another man walked out of the home with his hands in the air. He reportedly cooperated with police. That man told police his gun was inside a nearby blue truck, police wrote. Police found the gun in the truck.
Other roommates reportedly told police the two men had argued about some items that were sold on eBay.
One of the men lunged at the other with a sword, police wrote, slashing him in the upper torso.
“The victim, a legal gun owner, produced his concealed handgun,” police wrote, “and fired a single shot in self-defense.”
Police arrested the sword-wielding man. He was booked into jail for investigation of second-degree assault. He remained in custody Thursday afternoon.
