A state layoff and closure notice says 76 employees will lose their jobs as a result of the closure.

EVERETT — The Mill Creek QFC store will close its doors as soon as Sept. 3, according to a layoff and closure notice from the state.

The July 21 notice from the Washington Employment Security Department said 76 employees will lose their jobs at the Mill Creek location at 926 164th St. SE.

A spokesperson for QFC’s parent company, The Kroger Co., confirmed the closure Tuesday, but said no decision has been made as to the date.

“Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to close the Mill Creek QFC,” the spokesperson Tiffany Sanders said. “We are offering all associates an opportunity to transfer to a new location. This closure is a result of the lease.”

On June 20, Kroger announced during its first quarter earnings call, that it would close 60 stores nationwide over the next 18 months.

QFC has two locations in Everett and one location each in Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Mukilteo and Stanwood. Kroger also operates Fred Meyer stores in Washington.

Cincinnati-based Kroger operates more than 2,700 stores across 35 states.

The company said during the earnings call that it expects a “modest financial benefit” from the store closures.

Kroger reported $866 million in net profits for the first quarter of this year, according to its earnings release.
