50 years ago (1963)
Tyee Mortgage was holding an open house in its new building at 2612 Wetmore Ave. Firms that helped with the building were Associated Sand and Gravel, H.O. Seiffert, Attwell, Rustics, Maier Electric, Wellworth’s Snohomish Lumber, Turner Construction, City Heating and Sheet Metal, Ray Keith Neon and Rhod-a-zalea Gardens.
The sale of United Realty Insurance, at 2921 Colby in Everett and 1066 State in Marysville, was announced by Jerome B. “Casey” Jones. The new owners were Edward L. Kellough and Ray P. Schneider.
25 years ago (1988)
Betty Morrow, the adult literacy coordinator at Everett Community College, was in Orlando, Fla., giving a presentation about the Snohomish County program at a convention of the National Association for Developmental Education. Last year, she earned the association’s outstanding teacher award.
Gregg Hays, bridge tender for the Ebey Slough bridge near Marysville, was the subject of an article by Scott North. He managed the swing-draw span from a 1927-vintage console that had controls converted years ago from a San Francisco cable car. Hays, who liked his job, said it was solitary, but not lonely.
